Angad was the son of Vali and Tara and the nephew of Sugriva. Bali during the time of his death requested Sugriv to take care of his child. Sugriv consecrated Angad as the prince of Kiskindhya.
In his efforts to seek a peaceful solution, Ram sent several messengers to Ravana; Angad was one of them. Angad described Ravan what was Ram`s wish and revealed that if he released Sita the war could possibly be prevented. He tried by every method to influence Ravan, but Ravan was firm at his decision to encounter a war rather than returning Sita calmly.
At one stage, Angada planted his foot firmly on the ground and threw a challenge that if any person in Ravana's court uprooted his foot, Ram would lose the battle and return back with out Sita. All the rakshasa commanders of Ravana's army and even his son Indrajit tried to lift Angada's leg but none succeeded.
Infuriated Ravana slowly walked towards Angada's planted foot and just as he was about to hold Angada's leg to attempt the challenge, Angada moved away and Ravana fell down. Angada explained that the challenge was for Ravana's commanders and not for Ravana.
Angada hit the ground with both his hands with such tremendous force that it caused mild tremors on the earth. Ravana fell on the ground and his crowns rolled off his head. Ravana tried to pick up his crowns but before he could touch them, Angada picked four of them up and hurled them in the direction of Rama.
Hanuman grabbed the flying crowns and put them in front of Ram. Ravan directed his men to trap and kill Angad but he laughed loudly and fled. In the great war of Ramyana, Angad killed Ravan`s son Devantak.
